Who are the Craigleith Coyotes?

Well if you haven't heard of us yet... Where have you been?

The Coyotes are proud to be part of the Craigleith Ski Club, proud of where we come from and what we do. The next time you participate in or watch a race at Craigleith, know that the start was set up and tended to by a world class Timing Team, that the Safety Netting and corrals were put in place by seasoned World Cup and Olympic Crew Veterans working alongside the rest of the dedicated Coyotes Crew, and those blue lines... Even if it is just a finish line, it was probably put in place by the same people who dyed the lines for Manny, Eric, Robbie, Jan, Britt and Kelly... And you know what? We are glad to do it for you too!

Remember that Race Crew is supposed to be a fun experience. Join the commaraderie, make the time to enjoy the snow and hills. There's always beer in the crew fridge, and that if you feel a cough coming on, we have the cure for that too...

Message from Rob

When I suggested the idea of creating the Ron McMann Memorial Award, it was initially prompted by the shock and sadness of losing a friend, and fellow Coyote.

It is because of people like Ron, that I continue to enjoy, and be part of the Craigleith Coyotes.

The passing of Ron on March 12th, 2008 at the age of 51, was too early for many of us to accept.

Despite being a successful Captain of the Toronto Fire Fighting Department, Station #142 D Shift, at Craigleith, Ron assumed his role like every other volunteer member, assigned to tasks, and pitching-in where he was needed.

In the few years that we worked together on Race Crew, I admired his work ethic, dedication and support to his fellow crew members, and enjoyed his company.

At the end of a race crew work day, Ron and Deb were the ones you could count on to lead the celebration of our efforts at Wylie's, over a few beverages, and with their smiles, jokes and laughter.

Each year, while we remember the loss of Ron as part of our team, the Ron McMann Memorial Award is really meant to acknowledge the spirit, dedication, and love of skiing, and life, that he exemplified.

As Coyotes, every weekend we zip up our blue vests, and march onto the hills of Craigleith, we should carry the spirit and dedication of Ron McMann with us.

Greg “Sumo” Lee

1952 to February 14, 2011

On the deck of Craigleith Ski Club, warmed by the sun, the hills and the people he loved, and by whom he was love, suffered a stroke.
Treated unsuccessfully at the Owen Sound Hospital and University Hospital in London, Greg was pronounced dead on Valentine's Day afternoon.
Master ski coach, tennis player of note.
We are saddened by his leaving. We are less without him.
A celebration of Sumo's kindness, generosity and joy for all who learned to ski through him, carved a turn for him and/or with him, and/or loved him.
In Toronto at the Donalda Club on Thursday February 24th, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. and at the Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood on a date to be fixed.
His generosity lives on by donation and harvesting of organs and tissue. Five recipients of his organs are already benefitting. We also encourage everyone to register with the donor program at their provincial health organization.
Donations in Greg's honour may be made to Alpine Canada, Craigleith Ski Racing Program or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
