Congratulations to our very own Jen Gillard recipient of the 2010-2011 Alpine Ontario, Robert S. Shore Official's Award.

The Robert S. Shore Official's Award is awarded to an Alpine Racing Official in recognition of his/her commitment to leadership, safety, fairness and having significant impact on successful race delivery while promoting the sport of Alpine Ski Racing and volunteerism in Ontario.

Coyotes At The Lake

Fellow Coyotes,

We have been asked to put a group of ski race volunteers together to help out at the Ladies World Cup Races at Lake Louise from Monday November 28th to Sunday December 4th.

There are several positions available from Hospitality, Stewards, Course Crew, Safety, Dye Crew & Slippers.

The registration website is now open, go to http://www.worldcupwinterstart.com/ to create an account and follow the instructions. There are some glitches when trying to fill out your information, but persevere.

You will need to pay for the following:
Flights to and from Calgary
Transport from Calgary to Lake Louise and back
If you do hire a vehicle you will also have to purchase a Parks Canada Pass ($159)
Some evening meals and libations

The ROC will take care of the following:
Accommodation - Lake Louise Inn
Full breakfasts - at the hill
Pack lunches
Wednesday night dinner - Prime Rib @ Brewster's Barn
Thursday night - bbq burgers
Friday night - Spolumbo's Sausages
Saturday night - Bib Draw

Over the years the Coyote Crew members who have attended these Races and other Races across Canada, have built a good reputation for "HARD WORK & PLAY"

I just want to let you know that here are early mornings, late days, sometimes extreme conditions - but the rewards "know that you have helped pull of a series of major World Cup Races is so satisfying and being part of the largest ski racing volunteer group in the world - what more can I say"

K2 Nationals

Reminder, there is still one more day of racing for the K2 Nationals. On Friday March 25th Craigleith is hosting the Slalom races during the day and then a dual slalom beginning at 5pm. If you are able to lend a hand, your assistance will be greatly appreciated!

It's a wrap!

We have one more big event to plan...our Party!

The plan is to have a great day out with skiing, or relaxing (with Jen), eating, and having fun. We will be having a Pot-Luck type of gathering with the beverages and Meat graciously being supplied by the Club.

I am sorry to those of you who will not be around, but in order for us to plan for Steak and beverages, please let us know if you will be able to attend and what you can bring.

Desserts

Plates/Napkins

If the day begins early enough we may decide to have a brunch as well, with orange juice, fruit and pastries as sometimes the barbecue doesn't get heated up right away....Lunch should be around one or two.

The wind blew, the rain poured, the shit flew and out of the fog came the Coyotes Crew!

Message from Rob

When I suggested the idea of creating the Ron McMann Memorial Award, it was initially prompted by the shock and sadness of losing a friend, and fellow Coyote.

It is because of people like Ron, that I continue to enjoy, and be part of the Craigleith Coyotes.

The passing of Ron on March 12th, 2008 at the age of 51, was too early for many of us to accept.

Despite being a successful Captain of the Toronto Fire Fighting Department, Station #142 D Shift, at Craigleith, Ron assumed his role like every other volunteer member, assigned to tasks, and pitching-in where he was needed.

In the few years that we worked together on Race Crew, I admired his work ethic, dedication and support to his fellow crew members, and enjoyed his company.

At the end of a race crew work day, Ron and Deb were the ones you could count on to lead the celebration of our efforts at Wylie's, over a few beverages, and with their smiles, jokes and laughter.

Each year, while we remember the loss of Ron as part of our team, the Ron McMann Memorial Award is really meant to acknowledge the spirit, dedication, and love of skiing, and life, that he exemplified.

As Coyotes, every weekend we zip up our blue vests, and march onto the hills of Craigleith, we should carry the spirit and dedication of Ron McMann with us.
